Nova Scotia Maple Syrup Producers Get Government Help

Heavy snowfall last winter in Nova Scotia damaged provincial sap collection systems and kept about 40 per cent of the province's maple trees from being tapped.

The federal and provincial governments have announced they're putting up to 950 thousand dollars into helping the Nova Scotia industry recover from those damages.

The president of the Maple Producers Association of Nova Scotia - Drew Hunter - says the money will help producers get back on their feet for this spring's tapping season.

Farm cash receipts in Nova Scotia for maple industries totalled close to 4 million dollars in 2014.
