A major milestone for an Egg Farmers of Canada project this month.
A newly-built egg-laying operation in Swaziland welcomed its first flock of pullets this month.
It's a partnership between Egg Farmers of Canada , the International Egg Foundation and Heart for Africa.
The operation is expected to deliver thousands of eggs to orphaned children in the region.
Volunteer leaders and farmers from Canada have been helping locals build the entire egg farm from the ground up since late 2014.
They're also teaching Heart for Africa staff and Swazi locals Canadian farming practices so they can sustain the operation over time.
Julian Madeley, Managing Director of the International Egg Foundation, says the Swaziland project will serve as a showcase for other developing countries and regions afflicted by malnutrition and hunger.
