Push On To Double U-S Organic Wheat Acres

A North American flour-milling and ingredient company has announced an initiative to help U-S wheat growers double their organic wheat acres by 2019.

Ardent Mills CEO Dan Dye says there is a growing demand from restaurants and food companies for organic wheat flour for use in fresh, packaged and menu recipes.

He suggests his company's Organic Initiative 2019 is a significant opportunity for growers to become part of an emerging market.

Farmers joining the initiative will have access to direct support services, workshops and long-term contracts for transitional and organic wheat bushels.

Brett Blankenship of the National Association of Wheat Growers welcomes the initiative.

He says it offers U-S farmers access to an additional market and a new income stream while meeting rowing consumer demand for organic wheat flour and organic foods.

While the Organic Initiative 2019 is for U-S farmers, Arden Mills also has facilities in Canada and Puerto Rico.
