National Hog Slaughter up, Ontario Down

Hog slaughter in Ontario at both federally- and provincially-inspected plants was down 1 point 6 per cent for the week ending November 21st from a year ago.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada reports national hog slaughter was up about half a per cent that week - and is up by 2 and a half per cent so far this year.

The department says U-S hog slaughter is up 7 per cent so far this year from 2014.

Exports of Canadian live hogs to the U-S are up 12 point 6 per cent from a year ago.

And the the department reports the weekly Ontario hog price for the week ending November 21st was down over 20 per cent from the same week in 2014.
