The cost of the inputs Canadian farmers use on their farms went up 1 point 5 per cent in the second quarter of this year.
Statistics Canada says the April to June increase was mainly attributable to animal production costs, which went up 3 point 1 per cent.
Some of the other increases included 1 point 1 per cent for general business costs, half a per cent for both crop production and for machinery and motor vehicles and a point 1 per cent increase in building costs.
Ontario's quarter-to-quarter increase of 1 point 5 per cent was second to Alberta's 2 point 2 per cent in terms of how farmers costs went up in the individual provinces in the second quarter.
Statscan's year-over-year increase was 1 point 2 per cent nationally.
Again, the increase is being attributed to animal production costs, which were up 8 point 7 per cent from the same quarter in 2014.
Ontario's year-over-year input cost increase was 2 point 9 per cent.
