Dairy Farmers of Canada says the government appears to understand the importance of supply management dairy farms in rural Canada and the economic activities they generate.
DFC President Wally Smith suggests that shows in the mitigation measures the government has announced to soften the impact of the TPP on the country's supply-managed sectors.
Smith says his organisation would have preferred that no additional market access be conceded in the dairy sector.
He gives the government credit for fighting hard against other countries' demands and for lessening the burden with what Smith describes as what seems to be a fair compensation package.
The TPP opens up an additional 3 point 25 per cent of the Canadian dairy market.
