Agricultural economics professor Ron Plain reports there were 635 million pounds of pork in cold storage in the U-S on July 31st.
Plain's latest Hog Outlook says that number is 0 point 1 per cent higher than the month before and over 19 per cent higher than the same time last year.
He says it's also the sixth consecutive month with U-S pork stocks above the year-ago level.
Plain reports last Friday's national negotiated barrow and gilt price was $71.05 per hundredweight - down a dollar 84 from the previous week.
Last week's U-S hog slaughter was 2 point 214 million head.
That's down half a per cent from the week before but up 11 point 4 per cent from the same week last year.
Plain says U-S hog slaughter has been up by more than 10 per cent from the previous year in all but one of the past 14 weeks.
