Quebec Cheese-Maker Pushing Into Ontario, U-S

A Quebec craft cheese maker is planning to grow its Ontario market presence and push into the U-S.

La Fromagerie du Presbytere has won a number of prizes in Quebec and Canada for its cheeses.

Cheese-maker Jean Morin says their move into markets outside of Quebec is in response to competition from European cheeses as well as potential future competition from cheeses from the U-S and the rest of the Pacific rim.

Morin says their first U-S targets will be Boston and New York.

He's also calling on the federal government to keep its promise to compensate Canadian cheese-makers who Morin says will certainly be impacted by the new cheese imports from Europe and, presumably, Pacific Rim countries.
