Chicken Farmers of Ontario has announced a new program that will allow independent family farmers to grow up to 3 thousand chickens a year.
They'll need a production license, but no quota.
It's called the Artisanal Chicken program.
CFO says it's aimed at farmers interested in growing birds for select target markets, such as local farmer markets.
A previous CFO small flock program for farmers growing under 300 birds per year continues, re-named the Family Food program.
These changes are part of a portfolio of new programs the organisation says were developed following six months of extensive consultations with farmers, the public and industry.
The full list of new, expanded and revised programs will be outlined on the Chicken Farmers of Ontario website as they become available.
