Conservative MP Responds To TPP Criticism

The Conservative MP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound is expressing some frustration with what he calls media speculation surrounding the Trans Pacific Partnership talks.

Larry Miller points out one in every five Canadian jobs - and 60 per cent of the country's national wealth - is directly linked to exports.

He says that makes those agreements in line with Canada's national interests.

Miller also defends the government's position on supply management in the TPP negotiations.

He says the Conservatives have signed trade agreements with 39 different countries.

And he argues the standard in every one of those deals was that it must be in the best interests of Canadian and that supply management will be protected.

In an open letter, Miller quotes International Trade Minister Ed Fast's comments arguing that supply management has never prevented the government from successfully concluding trade agreements with countries like the U-S, the European Union and South Korea.
