The Canadian Sheep Identification Program's fees are going up on September 1st.
The Canadian Sheep Federation says the fee is going from 18 cents a tag to 23 cents - a 5 cent increase.
The Federation says the increase will accommodate the implementation of full traceability in the sheep industry ahead of regulatory changes expected in the fall of 2016.
Additions to the program will include movement reporting and tag retirement.
The process of designing that national sheep traceability program is continuing.
The Canadian Sheep Federation says producers can contact their provincial organisation or the national group if they want to participate in the consultations on the program.
