A research program in Western Canada is expected to benefit the entire Canadian beef industry.
It's a cow-calf surveillance network, designed to give researchers an idea of what's happening in the cow-calf industry.
It's focused on the three prairie provinces because that's where the bulk of the the Canadian cow-calf industry is.
Researchers say it will provide them with background information often needed in the case of trade issues.
It will also allow them to track disease rates and get an idea about animal welfare and other issues important to the beef industry and to the public.
The cow-calf surveillance network is funded through the National Check-off and the Beef Science Cluster.
