A number of factors have combined to create a lot of unevenness in wheat fields this year.
In some fields growers can have almost fully mature plants alongside some which are really green.
Jeff Jacques of Parrish and Heimbecker says that's going to create harvesting problems.
While growers wait for the green plants to dry up enough to put through the combine they're losing quality in the mature plants.
He says in some fields, tiller heads are running as much as three weeks behind the rest of the plants.
Jacques suggests growers look at spraying pre-harvest to kill the crop and get it to even up.
He says that should be done with 80 per cent of the crop is mature.
He's also recommending growers consider harvesting wheat at about 20 per cent moisture and then drying it to preserve the crop's quality.
