Oat And Barley Licence Fees Started July 1st

The new neonic-treated seed regulations aren't the only provincial legislation and regulatory changes going into effect July 1st that impact the agriculture sector.

The Ministry of Transportation is updating it's regulatory framework to expand on-road access for off-road vehicles that meet established industry standards.

And one that's specific to Southwestern Ontario - over-dimensional farm vehicles such as larger tractors are no longer allowed to use sections of highway 3 in urban areas such as the Town of LaSalle and the City of Windsor.

The annual license fee for grain dealers under the Grains Act is going from 48 dollars to 100 dollars.

OMAFRA says that's the first increase in 25 years.

And Farm Products Marketing Act changes will regulate and set a licence fee for oat and barley producers.

That fee will apply to oats and barley sold commercially and will go to Grain Farmers of Ontario to provide new resources to support and sustain growth in the sector.

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
