U-S Grain Stocks All Up, Corn Plantings Down

U-S corn, soybean and wheat stocks are all higher this year than they were a year ago.

The USDA says corn stocks are up 15 per cent, soybeans up 54 per cent and old crop all wheat up 28 per cent from June 1st of last year.

Much of the increased storage is being done on-farm, with the department reporting on-farm stored corn stocks are up 22 per cent, soybeans up 126 per cent and wheat up 60 per cent.

Meanwhile, the USDA says American farmers are believed to have planted record soybean acres, at the expense of corn and wheat.

The department estimates 85 point 1 million acres of soybeans have been planted this year, up 2 per cent from a year ago.

88 point 9 million acres of corn has apparently been planted in the U-S, down 2 per cent from a year ago.

The USDA says that's the lowest planted corn acreage in the U-S since 2010.

And all wheat planted area for 2015 is estimated at 56 point 1 million acres, down 1 per cent from 2014.
