The number of pigs handled by federally-inspected slaughter operations in Canada is up 2 point 3 per cent so far this year.
Ontario hog slaughter numbers are up 1 per cent from a year ago.

Ron Plain of the University of Missouri reports U-S hog slaughter last week was 1 point 14 million head - up about half a per cent from the week before - up 13 and a half per cent from the same week last year.
Plain says last Thursday's negotiated carcass price for plant delivered hogs in the U-S was a dollar 19 lower than the week before.
He says the average U-S price for 51-52 per cent lean hogs in May was up just over 12 dollars from April, but down more than 24 dollars from May of 2014.
