Huron Soil Health Advocate In Ag Hall Of Fame

Don Lobb of Clinton was inducted into the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame in Milton on Sunday.

Lobb farmed northwest of Clinton for 36 years.

He describes his induction into the Hall as very much a team effort.

Lobb credits his family first for the sacrifices they've made over the years.

He also gives credit and thanks to the relationships he's had with Huron Soil and Crop, OMAF, conservation authorities, the Universities of Guelph and Waterloo, as well as Agriculture Canada and the Land Improvement Contractors of Ontario.

Lobb says his focus for most of the 36 years he farmed was on preserving and improving soil quality because all of agriculture hinges on the quality of the soil.

He points out over the years there was a feeling that farmers can do what they want with the soil and when it was no longer productive they could move on to fresh soil.

But he points out we've run out of new frontiers so now we have to look after what we have.

Lobb adds soil quality should be a concern of everyone because everyone eats.

Lobb maintains soil quality is the essential component of agriculture and too often in the past it's been taken for granted.
