Canada Files To Retaliate Over COOL

Canada has officially filed it's request for WTO authorization to retaliate against the U-S over Country Of Origin Labelling.

The request looks for authorization to impose over 3 billion dollars in retaliatory measures against U-S exports to Canada. That request will be considered by the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body on June 17. Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz says the only way the U-S can avoid billions in immediate retaliation is to repeal COOL.

The WTO issued it's fourth and final ruling against the U-S labelling rules in May.

Damages to the Canadian livestock industry caused by COOL are estimated to be more than $3 billion a year.
