Government Says Pesticide Committee Open To New Membership Applications

A government spokesman says any member of the public is always welcome to apply to join the province's Pesticides Advisory Committee.

Lucas Malinowski of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change says there is no limit to the number of members who can sit on the committee and new appointees can join at any time.

Grain Farmers of Ontario has criticized the two recent additions to the committee - both members of the Ontario Beekeepers Association.

GFO Chair Mark Brock argues those two are opposed to the use of pesticides on crops.

Brock says GFO has expressed it's interest to the ministry about applying for membership on that committee - but have not received any notification they were looking for new appointees.

He argues the membership process may not be as transparent as the ministry has suggested.
