Food prices in April were up 3 point 6 per cent from a year ago.
Statistics Canada reports prices for food bought at stores were up 4 per cent, restaurant prices were up 2 point 7 per cent.
The agency says an 11 point 2 per cent increase in meat prices and a 4 point 3 per cent increase in the cost of fresh vegetables contributed to the year-over-year hike.
The overall consumer price index for April was up 0 point 8 per cent from April of 2014.
