OMAFRA specialist Brian Hall is more worried about herbicide activity and spraying than the impact of frost on most field crops.
Hall says the risk of crop damage is minimal with a light frost of 0 to minus 2 degrees celsius.
This is the time of the year when winter wheat fields are in need of weed control.
That's where Hall has concerns.
He says it's best to wait at least a day - preferably 2-3 days - for temperatures to warm before spraying after a frost.
Crops need nighttime temperatures above 4 degrees celsius to recover enough to improve the performance of herbicides.
According to Hall, herbicides will likely be less effective on weeds that have been stressed and weakened by frost.
