U-S Comments On TPP 'Alarm' National Cattle Feeders Association

The Chair of the National Cattle Feeders' Association says comments the U-S might seek to exclude Canada from the Trans Pacific Partnership are alarming .

Larry Schweitzer says being discriminated against in the Japanese market, specifically, would be disastrous for the future of the Canadian beef and cattle industry.

The Association points out Canada exported 4 point 2 billion dollars worth of food and agricultural products to Japan in 2013.

Schweitzer argues that's more significant for Canadian agriculture than the European market, which was worth 2 point 8 billion dollars in the same year.

Association General Manager Bryan Walton says access to the Japanese market is the major prize for his group in the government's program of free trade negotiations.
