OAC Poultry Nutrition Research Gets A Boost

A retired Huron County farm couple have made a 1 million dollar gift to the University of Guelph to support a professorship in poultry nutrition.

Jim and Brenda McIntosh retired off their Egmundville egg farm last year.

Their son, Ross, took over the business.

The McIntosh's have a long history in their community and in agriculture.

Jim's was clerk-treasurer for the former Tuckersmith Township, an OFA director and a director with the Ontario Egg Producers Marketing Board.

Brenda was deputy clerk with the municipality, has served on the Farm Debt Review Board and the Farm Credit Canada Advisory Board and as president of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture.

Jim McIntosh says they see their gift as a way to protect the poultry industry, bolster the research the industry needs and give back to a way of life so many Ontario farmers are fortunate to have.

The University of Guelph professor in poultry nutrition spot will be filled by a researcher and communicator who will find ways to make feed more efficient for the farmer and - in turn - the consumer.
