New Ontario Veal Marketing Board Officially Up-And-Running

Veal Farmers of Ontario is now officially the province's newest marketing board.

Regulations creating the board came into force April 1st.

It's inaugural board of directors was appointed by the Farm Products Marketing Commission for the first year of operations.

Brian Keunen of Palmerston was elected chair - Chris Vervoort of Arthur Vice Chair.

They're joined on the board by Judy Dirksen of Harriston, Randy Drenth of Clifford, Joyce Feenstra of Belwood, Pascal Bouilly of Cambridge, Tom Kroesbergen of Ailsa Craig and Tom Oudshoorn of Auburn.

Veal Farmers of Ontario will be collecting it's own license fees of 4 dollars a head.

That's the same as what Beef Farmers of Ontario had been collecting on veal cattle.

BFO and VFO have set up some interim guidelines on how those fees are going to be handled.

License fees for all dairy bob calves and veal calves sold by producers direct to slaughter will be directed to Veal Farmers of Ontario.

License fees for all live calf sales at auction or by private treaty, except dairy bob calves, will go to Beef Farmers of Ontario.

The Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission says it will do a mandatory review of the new organisation after two years in operation.
