The Beef Cattle Research Council has produced a video to give producers an easy way to learn the key points about antimicrobial use and resistance.
Antimicrobial resistance is a real threat to both human and livestock medicine.
However, the video points out over 90 per cent of the antimicrobials used in Canadian beef production are not used in human medicine.
It also argues there is very little, if any, evidence Canadian beef production is causing antimicrobial resistance problems in human medicine.
However, the Council points out producers do need to be aware that if antimicrobial drugs used in the beef industry become less effective in cattle - animal welfare , productivity and profitability in the sector will suffer.
Council spokesperson Tracy Herbert says the video has already been viewed over 7 thousand times online and is being used at industry events and conferences across the country.
She says it's also being shared by producers through Facebook.
The Beef Cattle Research Council video is available through the BCRC website.
