American Hog Slaughter Numbers Continue To Beat 2014

U-S hog slaughter was up again last week.

Ron Plain's latest University of Missouri Hog Outlook reports the 2 point 188 million head slaughtered in the U-S last week was 8 point 6 per cent more than the same week a year ago.

Plain points out U-S hog slaughter has been above year-ago numbers each week since mid-January.

Last week's pork cutout value was 65.72 per hundredweight.

That's down 42 cents from the week before, almost 60 dollars lower than a year ago.

The carcass price for plant-delivered hogs in the U-S last week was $58.04 per hundredweight - 95 cents higher than the previous week but over 61 dollars lower than a year ago.

University of Missouri Agricultural Economist Ron Plain says U-S pork exports were down just over 10 per cent in February, with most of the decline in shipments to China.

Plain says with the labour dispute at west coast ports now ended, he's hopeful U-S pork exports will increase going forward.
