Ontario's Most Profitable Acre Challenge Winners Named

A Huron County farmer came in third in the provincial Most Profitable Acre Challenge.

The Challenge looked at a number of things, including input costs, marketing tactics and business management practices.

Jim Denys from Huron placed third, Mathieu Lauzon from North Glengarry second and Kurtis Peeters from Kawartha Lakes placed first in this year's event.

Peeters is an organic corn grower.

He says high organic crop prices in 2014 helped his case.

Peeters feels knowing his cost of production and using best business management techniques have influenced his bottom line year after year.

He tracks his input costs, has written marketing and business plans and is a member of a business management club.

There were 19 farmers entered in this year's competition.

It was sponsored by the Agri-food Management Institute in partnership with Grain Farmers of Ontario.

The winners received their awards at this week's March Classic in London.
