Provincial Government Support For Ontario Grapes And Wines

The provincial government has launched two programs to help the Ontario wine and grape sector.

The new Marketing and Vineyard Improvement Program is designed to help increase the sale of Ontario wines in and out of province.

It will also help market Ontario wine regions as tourist destinations and support vineyard production improvements.

The second program is the VQA Wine Support Program.

It's not new - it's a renewal of an existing program to help increase LCBO sales of VQA wines.

Ontario Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal says the province is committed to working with the sector to create new jobs, support the development of world-class wines and promote growth in the agri-food sector.

Grape Growers of Ontario Chair Bill George says growers continue to invest in new infrastructure technology and innovation to build a stable industry.

These two programs are part of the province's Wine and Grape Strategy which will invest 75 million dollars in the industry over five years.
