UPDATE: Grain Processing Sector Announcement Today

The Government of Canada is making an investment of $3.7 million to help Integrated Grain Processors Cooperative (IGPC) Ethanol Inc. install Canada’s first Fiber Separation Technology™ system to help boost production through operational efficiencies.

The announcement was made today.

The investment will enable IGPC Ethanol to have a higher output of ethanol, corn oil and distillers’ grains, develop new higher value animal feed products and lower the plant’s energy consumption.  This investment will enable IGPC Ethanol to purchase approximately 18 million bushels, up from 16 million currently, of corn grain from local farmers for use as feedstock.

This project builds on an earlier $6.09 million investment under the ecoAgriculture Biofuels Capital Initiative.

The repayable contribution is made through the AgriInnovation Program, a five-year, up to $698 million initiative under the Growing Forward 2 policy framework.

From 7:49am:

Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz will be in Aylmer today to make an announcement in support of the grain processing sector.

The announcement is expected at 3:30pm.

The only other detail about the announcement is where it's going to be made - at the Integrated Grain Processors Cooperative Ethanol in Aylmer, or IGPC Ethanol.

The co-op produces 150 million liters of ethanol annually and the distillers grains are marketed and trucked out to area beef, dairy and pork operations.

It was founded in 2002 by a group of farmers and agri-business people looking to add value to Ontario’s agricultural production.
