Fed cattle prices dipped last week across the province.
Fed steers averaged 68 cents lower, heifers 61 cents lower than the previous week. However, steers were still over $46 stronger than last year and heifers were up by almost $41.
Beef Farmers of Ontario reports extra fancy cattle are still bringing a premium at auction. Rail grade prices declined as the week progressed, ending up averaging a dollar lower than the week before. That's still $78 dollars higher than last year.
The number of cull cows sold in Ontario last week was down from the previous week, and from a year ago, with the average price running 2 cents higher than a week ago and over $38 higher than last year. Replacement cattle marketings were up last week.
BFO says there were over 5,200 replacements sold through provincial auction markets on the week, up 161 from the previous week and over 2,200 higher than a year ago.
Auction markets reported steady to barely steady trade on good quality and by last Thursday prices were fully steady to strong.
