Thomson, Phillies headed to NLCS again

For the second straight year, Corunna-native Rob Thomson will manage in the National League Championship Series.

In his first full season as manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, Thomson guided his team to another berth in the National League final with a 3-1 win over Atlanta in Game 4 of the National League Division Series. The Phillies won the best of five series 3 games to 1.

It's the second straight season the Phillies have eliminated the Braves from the playoffs. Last year, they defeated Atlanta in the NLCS to advance to the World Series, where they lost to Houston in six games.

Thomson said, after a tough loss in Game 3, he knew his players would be in the right frame of mind going into Game 4.

"It's a combination of talent and make up," Thomson told reporters after the win. "We've got a really talented group. But they are tough, and they have short memories. They have short memories for negative things and they have long memories for positive things. They just come out and fight every day."

The National League Championship Series between the Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks begins on Monday.
