A major bridge replacement has wrapped up in the Municipality of West Grey.
Bridge 44, or Scotchtown Bridge, is open to traffic, meaning an end to the closure of Northline Road between Glenelg Road 23 and the Artemesia/Glenelg Townline.
The new precast rigid-frame concrete bridge features helical pile installation, waterproofing, reinforced concrete work, and newly paved road approaches.
The bridge was closed June 23, 2025, and the original structure which was built in 1920 was removed. The bridge needed to be replaced for safety reasons as it had reached the end of its service life.
“Investing in safe and reliable infrastructure is essential for our community. The replacement of Bridge 44 ensures that residents, businesses, and emergency services have dependable access for years to come," said Mayor Kevin Eccles. "We thank everyone for their patience during construction and look forward to continued progress on our infrastructure priorities.”
The Ontario community Infrastructure Fund supported the project, with the support of project partners Triton Engineering and W.G. Kelly Contracting.
