Scotiabank's Ag Index Up In June, Still Way Behind Last Year

Scotiabank says it's Agricultural Index was up 2 point 3 per cent in June from May.

However, that's still 12 and a half per cent below where it was a year ago.

The bank says higher barley, canola and hog prices helped boost the agricultural index.

Scotiabank's Patricia Mohr says Statistics Canada's first crop production estimate is due on August 21st, giving us an idea the impact of drought in Western Canada and cold conditions in Ontario.

The bank's overall Commodity Price Index was also up in June - 2 point 6 per cent from May, 9 point 5 per cent from June of 2014.
