Wallaceburg Catholic schools to unveil new Indigenous art projects

Three Indigenous art installations are being unveiled in Wallaceburg.

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board (SCCDSB) has partnered with artists Cedric Isaac, from Bkejwanong Territory; John Williams, from Aamjiwnaang First Nation; and Moses Lunham, from Kettle and Stony Point First Nation; to create the projects at the community's three Catholic schools.

Cortnee Goure, Indigenous Education Lead for the SCCDSB, told CK News Today students at Holy Family Catholic School, Christ the King Catholic School, and St. Elizabeth Catholic School also took part.

"Students from kindergarten all the way to grade 8 had the chance to be involved in the entire process. Everything from drawing the art, all the way to painting the art," she said.

The art at each school will be a different theme. The three artists also got the chance to work on each piece.

"We decided to not have one artist per school but to have all three artists at all three schools," added Goure.

Each installation will be revealed on Monday. The first at Holy Family Catholic School from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., the second at Christ the King Catholic School from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., and the third at St. Elizabeth Catholic School from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Members of the public are invited to take part in each unveiling.
