Major U-S Plants Want PigTrace Ear Tags January 1st

Ontario Pork has a heads-up for producers marketing culled sows to the U-S.

As of January 1st - many major U-S plants are going to require government-approved PigTrace ear tags on sows supplied to them.

Ontario Pork is encouraging producers to talk with their marketers to find out what they want.

There's also talk some of those plants will deduct for culled cows shipped without the tags.

There are two approved ear tags for Canadian-sourced sows.

One is the PigTrace herd mark, the other the PigTrace individual ID.

Ontario Pork points out tag orders may take three to four weeks for delivery.

Provincial pork producers with questions about this are advised to contact Ontario Pork or PigTrace Manager Jeff Clark.
