Motorcyclist dies after medical event, crash during charity ride near Thamesville

A charity motorcycle ride along Longwoods Road in Chatham-Kent over the weekend took a tragic turn when one of the riders died after suffering a medical event.

Chatham-Kent police said a 68-year-old man from Ingersoll was taking part in the "Freedom Ride for Teen Challenge" just before noon on Saturday when he suffered a medical event and lost control of his motorcycle just east of Thamesville.

Police said the bike slowed and came to rest in a ditch, adding that lifesaving measures were provided at the scene before the man was taken to the nearest hospital.

He was later pronounced deceased.

A section of Longwoods Road was closed for a couple of hours Saturday for the investigation.
